This notice explains how we use the details you share when signing up for Read The Day.

What we collect, and why
Your email address, chosen topics and frequency let us manage and send your newsletter. Your role is optional and helps us choose relevant content. We record the consent wording, its version, request time and email confirmation time. Subscription processing relies on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
You do not need to subscribe or share your role to read the website. The signup does not consent to unrelated promotions or advertising. We do not sell your subscriber details or make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about you.

Who processes your details
OpenAI Sites and Cloudflare provide hosting and database infrastructure. Resend processes your email address and email content to deliver messages. Infrastructure providers also handle connection and security data, including IP addresses.
These providers may process data outside the EEA, including in the United States. Their data processing terms describe applicable transfer safeguards, including EU Standard Contractual Clauses: OpenAI, Cloudflare and Resend. Contact us for information about the safeguards that apply to your data.

How long we keep it
We keep your subscription details while your subscription is active. Confirmation links expire after 24 hours. Unconfirmed requests become eligible for deletion after 30 days.
When you unsubscribe, we remove your role and stop your subscription. We retain your email address and limited consent and withdrawal records for up to two years to honour your choice and address consent disputes. This limited record keeping relies on our legitimate interest in preventing unwanted emails and documenting requests. Expired records are removed during the next signup cleanup. Provider logs and backups follow their own retention schedules.
We keep delivery records, including the message sent to your address, for 45 days to prevent duplicate emails and troubleshoot delivery. These are removed during the next newsletter preparation.
To prevent signup abuse, our application keeps email rate-limit hashes and, when configured, keyed IP hashes for up to eight days, with cleanup during subsequent signup activity. This security processing relies on our legitimate interest in protecting the service.

Change your mind, anytime
Use the unsubscribe link in your email to stop your subscription without an account or login. You can change your topics, role and frequency by signing up again with the same email and confirming the new choices. Until you confirm, your existing choices remain in place.
You can request access, correction, deletion, restriction or a portable copy of your data. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of earlier processing. You may also complain to your local data protection authority, including Datatilsynet in Norway.
