AIImage generationStory 02

Image models learn meaning before pixels

What changedKnow, then Draw gives two jobs to two training stages. Autoregressive pretraining learns the semantic structure of an image, then diffusion turns that knowledge into sharp pixels. A 3-billion-parameter model trained with 6,600 H100 hours reached 86 on GenEval and 87 on DPG-Bench, according to the authors.

Generated images and a benchmark chart compare the Know, then Draw model with larger visual-generation systems.

The useful part

Why it matters

Separating understanding from rendering could make strong image generation more compute-efficient and easier to scale deliberately.

Keep in mind

Good to know

Benchmark scores and paper samples do not establish creator preference, prompt fidelity or production cost in real workflows.
