A walking robot skips repeated reasoning

What changedASPEN predicts whether a navigation model would repeat its last command. When confidence is high, the robot reuses that command and avoids another expensive semantic pass. On unseen simulated environments, it reduced model calls by 9.5% and estimated inference time by 8.1% while preserving identical action sequences on 92.1% of episodes.

The ASPEN architecture shows a frozen navigation model and a lightweight trigger that decides when to reuse a command.

The useful part

Why it matters

A robot can save computation on straight-ahead moments while still calling the larger model for turns, stops and instruction changes.

Keep in mind

Good to know

This is a navigation benchmark with estimated timing, not a physical deployment or a guarantee that skipped reasoning is safe.
